Hand picking apples at June and Robin Small's company, Charlton Orchards, Taunton, Somerset. Their company was chewed up and spat out by the superstores, but they didn't give up. They found a way of surviving, by selling direct to local people. They've become evangelists for community orchards and local marketing. They're growing about 25 varieties of English apple: one of the last diverse commercial orchards left in Britain.
